We got back from visiting the Valencia Fallas fiesta on Friday evening. A great fiesta but you really cannot sleep in the city during the fiesta, due to the constant fireworks. If anyone does go in the future be very aware of the pickpockets, one of our friends had his wallet stolen on the first day when we were in one of the many very crowded areas.
I had to attend a Pleno today at 10.0am. Don't know why I rushed to get there as usual it didn't start until 10.40am!
The majority of the meeting was to discuss the awarding of the contracts for such things as the gymnasium and the application for various grants. It is these applications that are taking up most of the Town Hall staffs time at the moment and is also the reason why I am having to delay progressing issues which we need to deal with. I apologise for these delays but I will try and get them sorted in the next few weeks.
The award of the contract for the gymnasium went to Construcciones Zurano who scored more points than any of the other bidders and were also the cheapest. They have indicated in their quote that they will complete the work within 5 to 6 months of being awarded the contract. This may also help with the parking problem for the area. We also discussed the applications for other grants from the Junta to a) help the poorest in the area b) for education c) for more spaces in the graveyard and d) money for help to train people.
I asked Candido how his meeting had gone with Luis Caparros last Thursday and he said some good some not so good. They had discussed many of the grants which the Town Hall would be applying for including the money to help complete the inventory. Caparros agreed to help fund this work but did not agree how! He (Caparros) did indicate that he was now willing to incorporate areas where we could show that houses were in existence prior to 2002. They want aerial photos to prove this. Whilst that may not seem a big deal, as it really only supports the older houses, I am assured that this is another step forward from the Junta in their willingness to reach some sort of base line. I asked if he had any further thoughts on when we might see agreement on the PGOU and he then said that Caparros had not given any indication but that he had more meetings arranged in the next few weeks.
I asked when we could get back to resolving some of the issues affecting residents in the area and he said that once this hectic period of applying, gaining and allocating grants was out of the way. I was told these issues should be dealt with by the end of this month. I will be pushing again for the issues to be dealt with then. The main one from my point of view is the Polizia Local their working hours and method of working but I also have many others.
